BWT Alpine Formula One Team – Silverstone Wrap-Up
It’s been a long first half of the 2025 F1 Championship for Alpine, with results and points becoming increasingly hard to come by in a highly competitive field. If there was anywhere a team would want to break that trend, it would be at a home race—and with Gasly’s scintillating P6, Alpine and those at Enstone will be thrilled with their time at Silverstone this weekend.
Today in numbers:
Pierre started from P8 on new Intermediates, finished P6
Pit stops on Lap 11 for new Intermediates and Lap 41 for new Mediums
Fastest lap: 1min 30.751secs
Franco did not start
Promising Saturday for the team:
While Colapinto had a difficult qualifying—spinning off and into the barriers in Q3—Gasly made his way through Q2 and, finally, into Q3 by sneaking ahead of Carlos Sainz by just 35 thousandths of a second, showing the razor-thin margins throughout the midfield pack.
He finished Q3 in tenth without making a major impression on the session, but due to Antonelli and Bearman carrying penalties into qualifying, Gasly moved up to P8 for his Sunday start after their penalties were applied.
Gasly’s rain mastery sees points for Enstone:
Everything came together for Gasly on Sunday as he weathered the storm of a chaotic race—both figuratively and literally—as rain cells passed over Silverstone for the first 30 laps.
Making up positions early, Gasly ran in the top 10 for the entire race, only losing places to Verstappen, Hamilton, and Hulkenberg. With Ferrari and Mercedes taking strategic risks on slicks early, Gasly was able to gain positions on Leclerc and Russell without a fight, got past Alonso early, and pipped Stroll to sixth on the final lap.
“We took the risks and it paid off with the right strategy calls and great pit-stops. I am looking forward to being at the factory this week to continue the hard work and hopefully seeing some smiles tomorrow morning!”
Gasly enjoyed the race, avoiding most of the turmoil ahead and behind, running his own race and savouring the on-track battles on his way to the chequered flag.
“We had some nice on track battles with drivers we don't normally fight with like Fernando [Alonso], Lewis [Hamilton] and Max [Verstappen], so that was fun. It was all about judging the risk and we just tried to go for it.”
Colapinto’s day ends before it begins:
It was a tale of two races for the team. Unfortunately, Colapinto was unable to start after suffering a driveline issue when he came into the pits following the formation lap.
“It was not clear what the issue was at the time, which took some time to investigate during the race. All I know is that I could not pull away from the box. We tried a few things to get going again, but in the end, we had to retire the car.”
He was disappointed to miss the opportunity to make up for his qualifying error:
“I was really looking forward to today's race, so it was disappointing not to be able to get out there and try to make up for the result yesterday in conditions that opened up a lot of opportunities.”
Looking Ahead:
The team can take a lot from this result, knowing that in the right conditions, the A525 is capable of delivering. Flavio summed it up well post-race, suggesting:
“With how we started the weekend, points didn't look possible, so well done to the team for turning it around.”
“We have made up ground on Haas, RB, and Williams, while others have pulled away. The result from our rivals also gives us hope we can do the same and we will continue to push to improve on our position.”
With a two-week break before the daunting challenge of Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the team is celebrating the points finish while working hard to ensure the car and drivers are ready for the second half of the season.
