iRacing Development Update – May 2025

iRacing's 2025 Season 3 update is a significant step forward for sim racers everywhere. From tire model overhauls and adaptive AI to track visual updates and car additions, this release brings deeper realism, better user experience, and long-requested improvements.

Tire Model Overhaul: Realism Rebalanced

GTP and LMP2 classes have received fresh tire models aimed at better aligning with real-world grip levels. The previous tire behavior offered too much cornering stability, making things feel a little too glued to the track. Now, grip builds more progressively, and cold tires behave more unpredictably—demanding more patience and finesse during early laps.

Adaptive AI: Progress That Grows With You

One of the headline features, Adaptive AI, brings smarter and more scalable competition to solo racers. The AI field learns from your skill level and tailors its pace to match. Whether you're still refining your racecraft or already pushing for perfection, AI now presents a challenge that evolves as you do.

ARCA Menards Series Refresh

The ARCA Menards Series has been brought up to spec with newly licensed Ford Mustang, Chevy SS, and Toyota Camry body styles. With enhanced visuals and physics, these cars replace the outgoing ARCA stock car in official races—though the original remains usable elsewhere. Anyone who purchased the old car recently will receive credits back.

iRacing continues to refine its circuit roster:

Portland International Raceway now features multiple layout options.

Bristol, Darlington, and Homestead have been refreshed with improved textures and geometry.

Jerez, Sandown, and Aragon circuits now feature expanded 3D curb models, giving a better sense of edge grip and realism.

Australia's The Bend Motorsport Park is being added into the mix, a 7.77km long circuit with a total of 35 corners on their full circuit.

VR Enhancements: Performance Where It Counts

iRacing continues its long-running commitment to virtual reality. In Season 3, they’re introducing quad-view fixed foveated rendering support for Nvidia RTX 2000 series GPUs and above.

This new system intelligently prioritises rendering quality in the areas where the driver is looking while reducing processing demand on the periphery. The result? Smoother VR performance and greater GPU headroom—especially valuable while the next-gen rendering engine remains in development.

Connection Stability: New Safeguards Introduced

A new connection flag system has been implemented to mitigate the impact of unstable internet connections. If a player’s connection is too erratic, they’ll be temporarily ghosted from track visibility—ensuring fairness and cleaner racing for others.

Better AI Racecraft in Multiclass Scenarios

Offline racers will now enjoy more authentic traffic behavior. AI drivers now flash headlights to indicate overtakes in multiclass events—an added layer of realism that helps mimic real-world dynamics.

Looking Ahead: What’s Coming Next

iRacing isn’t slowing down. The dev team is already deep into work on the September and December builds, with major content and system upgrades in the pipeline.

Mexico City is getting the full overhaul treatment, while Miami is being updated to better reflect its race-day layout. New content is also expected across GT3, GT4, GTP, and Dirt Road, with a new open-wheel entry on the horizon too.

Also in development: updated audio systems, improved UI, and more AI-powered features—all signs that iRacing is focused on refining the overall experience.

What It Means for Trak Racer Drivers
